Easy Plant-Based Cooking: The Story of Una Vegana Fuorisede

Easy plant-based cooking made simple: discover how Una Vegana Fuorisede turns everyday meals into something practical, affordable, and real.
What if easy plant-based cooking didn’t mean spending hours in the kitchen, emptying your wallet, or completely reinventing your lifestyle?
For many people, veganism still feels complicated, restrictive, or simply “not for them.” And yet, sometimes all it takes is a shift in perspective—one that feels real, practical, and actually doable in everyday life.
That’s exactly where the story of Una Vegana Fuorisede begins. What started as a simple way to share homemade meals between university classes in Milan has quietly grown into something more: a space where simple plant-based cooking becomes approachable, affordable, and—most importantly—genuinely enjoyable.
In this interview, she opens up about her journey, the misconceptions she’s constantly challenging, and why eating plant-based might be far simpler than you think.
Why Easy Plant-Based Cooking Feels So Complicated (But Isn’t): Camilla Benetollo’s Interview
1. The name “Una Vegana Fuorisede” (A Vegan Away From Home) already says a lot about you and your journey. How did this identity come about, and when did you realize it could become more than just a social media profile?
“Una Vegana Fuorisede” was born in March 2022 and perfectly reflects who I was at that time. I was a student living away from home in Milan and had already been vegan for a couple of years. I’ve always had a strong passion for cooking, and I noticed a lot of interest—especially from friends and classmates—in what I was preparing. So I decided to start the page to share the meals I brought with me to university every day.
I graduated two years ago, and even though I’m no longer technically a “fuorisede,” I chose to keep the name because I still identify with that lifestyle: budget-friendly, simple, quick, and low-effort. I realized it could become something more than just a social media profile when people started messaging me saying that, thanks to my content, they had cooked plant-based meals for the first time or changed their approach to everyday cooking.

2. Your content shows a very practical, accessible, and realistic approach to plant-based cooking. How important is it for you to communicate that eating plant-based doesn’t mean complicating your life?
It’s essential, and it’s exactly why I started the page. Whenever I say I’m vegan, the reactions are almost always the same: “I’d like to, but…” followed by “it’s too expensive,” “it takes too much time,” or “it’s complicated.” With my recipes, I want to show that easy plant-based cooking is within everyone’s reach—that it can be simple, practical, and, most importantly, delicious.
Plant-Based Cooking on a Budget: A Real-Life Approach
3. Living away from home often means having limited time, budget, and resources. How much has this personal experience influenced the way you communicate food and wellbeing online?
It has influenced my communication style a lot. Living away from home is a lifestyle in itself: you’re constantly keeping an eye on your budget, time never seems enough, and you often find yourself in less-than-ideal situations. In the first apartment I lived in, I had very little space, just two burners, and almost no kitchen equipment. This pushed me to be creative, but it also allowed me to show that plant-based cooking doesn’t require special tools or complicated preparations.

4. Many people still see a vegan diet as restrictive or difficult to maintain. What’s the misconception you hear most often and would like to debunk once and for all?
There are really many, but the biggest misconception I’d like to debunk is that it’s an extreme choice. It’s true that people who follow a plant-based diet choose to exclude certain foods, but at the same time, they discover and introduce many new ones. Also, given how the food system is structured today, plant-based products tend to have the lowest impact on the environment, animals, and often even on people. To me, this is the most natural choice possible—not an extreme one.
5. Your videos always convey authenticity and simplicity—qualities that aren’t so common on social media today. How important is it for you to maintain this genuine approach in your content creation?
It’s fundamental. With the constant rise of content creators on social media, standing out has become essential, and the simplest and most powerful way to do that is by being yourself. Authenticity is what allows me to truly connect with the people who follow me.
6. Today you balance your daily life between work and content creation. How has your relationship with time, organization, and self-care changed compared to your university years?
When I was at university, I thought I was always busy with exams, my thesis, social media, and side jobs. Now, I can say that I partly miss those times. I was busy, yes, but I had more freedom in managing my time.
Now I work for an energy company and I’m in the office from 9 to 6, so organization has become essential. I manage content creation in the evenings and on weekends, but it’s something I genuinely enjoy doing, so for now, I don’t see it as a burden.

Starting a Plant-Based Lifestyle Without Overthinking It
7. Looking back, do you think the project you built has changed you on a personal level as well as professionally? In what way?
Absolutely. This project has made me much more confident in myself. Knowing that I built everything on my own makes me incredibly proud. It has also allowed me to meet amazing people and experience things I would have never imagined possible.
8. If you had to leave a message for someone who wants to move toward a more plant-based lifestyle but feels “not capable” or thinks they don’t have enough time, what would you say?
If you think, “I’d like to be vegan, but I could never give up…,” whether it’s mozzarella on pizza, a Ferragosto barbecue, or eggs for breakfast—then start by eating plant-based except for those things.
People often think that if they can’t do it perfectly, it’s not even worth starting, but I don’t agree with that at all. These labels push many people away. This journey requires awareness, because it’s not always easy to live in line with your principles. My advice is to get informed: read, watch documentaries, listen to other people’s experiences. Truly understanding the reasons behind this choice changes everything and makes it natural to stick with it with conviction.

Thank You, Camilla!
